2016 Mercedes AMG GT

Mercedes AMG GT 4

Last year’s Mercedes SLS AMG GT marked the end of the first vehicle developed fully by AMG. Well, here’s the successor to the throne, the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT that’s due to hit showrooms next year. The new coupe will be offered in two trims, both housing the brand’s new 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 with dry-sump lubrication, dubbed the M178.

The GT has an output 456 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque that pushes it from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 189 mph. The GT S pushes 503 hp and 479 pound-feet of torque as it goes from 0 to 60 in 3.7 on its way to a top speed of 193 mph. All this is courtesy of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that comes with a locking differential. In terms of styling, much inspiration comes from the 300SL such as the single-bar chrome grille and bubble roof, but it all comes together nicely in a very modern design. There’s a big prominent Mercedes star inside an oval grille with two air intakes at the lower corners while the hood features dual powerdomes.

The tapered rear looks wide with its long taillights and an electronically controlled rear spoiler that’s tucked away nicely when not deployed. Inside, you’ll see Mercedes’ two-pod layout for the instrument panel fitted with an electronic display in the center and a flat-bottom steering wheel to control this beast. The center console is dubbed the Drive unit, with styling reminiscent of the V8’s cylinder layout. Look for the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S to release spring 2015 with the GT following in 2016.
